Description

What Is Resveratrol Powder?

Resveratrol Powder is a plant-derived stilbenoid polyphenol at ≥98% purity (HPLC), naturally occurring in the skin of grapes, berries, peanuts, and the roots of Japanese knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum), which serves as the primary commercial source. With the INCI name Resveratrol and CAS number 501-36-0, it belongs to the stilbene class of polyphenols and exists primarily in its trans-isomer form — the biologically active configuration responsible for its potent antioxidant and cell-signalling properties.

For those new to actives, resveratrol is one of the most exciting anti-aging ingredients in modern skincare. It helps protect skin from everyday environmental damage, brightens uneven skin tone, and supports a firmer, more youthful-looking complexion. It’s the kind of ingredient that works quietly but powerfully behind the scenes, and at 0.1–1.0% use rates, a little goes a long way.

At the expert level, resveratrol operates through multiple mechanisms: it directly scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS), inhibits tyrosinase to reduce melanogenesis, modulates NF-κB inflammatory pathways, and activates SIRT1 sirtuin pathways associated with cellular longevity and DNA repair. Its slight water solubility (≤0.03 mg/mL) requires pre-dissolution in ethanol, propylene glycol, or a carrier oil before water-phase incorporation. Being light- and oxidation-sensitive, it should be formulated with antioxidant co-ingredients and packaged in opaque or airless containers. Molecular formula: C₁₄H₁₂O₃; MW: 228.24 g/mol; EINECS: 207-922-4.

Key Benefits

  • Potent Polyphenol Antioxidant — Neutralizes free radicals and reduces oxidative stress from UV, pollution, and environmental aggressors
  • Sirtuin Pathway Activation — Activates SIRT1 to support cellular repair, longevity signalling, and skin renewal at a biological level
  • Brightening & Tone Correction — Inhibits tyrosinase activity to reduce hyperpigmentation and promote a more even complexion
  • Anti-Inflammatory — Modulates NF-κB to reduce redness, irritation, and UV-induced inflammatory response
  • Collagen & Photoaging Support — Supports collagen synthesis and reduces visible signs of photoaging over time
  • ≥98% Purity (HPLC) — Premium cosmetic-grade polyphenol with verified potency; plant-derived from Polygonum cuspidatum

Applications

  • Anti-aging serums and concentrated treatments
  • Brightening and tone-correcting moisturizers
  • Photoprotective day creams (alongside SPF actives)
  • Eye serums and targeted spot treatments
  • Antioxidant face oils and oil serums (pre-dissolved)
  • Premium night creams and repair formulations

How to Formulate With Resveratrol Powder

Beginner tip: Resveratrol doesn’t dissolve easily in water on its own — always pre-dissolve it in a small amount of ethanol, propylene glycol, or a carrier oil first, then blend into your formula. Start at 0.1–0.5% for a first formula. It pairs beautifully with vitamin C actives and niacinamide for a multi-pathway brightening serum.

Expert notes:

  • Phase: Oil phase or as a pre-dissolved concentrate added to the water phase
  • Usage Rate: 0.1–1.0%; typical effective range is 0.1–0.5% in leave-on formulas
  • Synergies: Excellent with CoQ10 (complementary antioxidant cascades), Ferulic Acid (antioxidant stabilization), Vitamin C derivatives (brightening amplification), GHK-Cu (cellular repair synergy), and Niacinamide (anti-inflammatory + pigmentation)
  • Stability: Light- and oxidation-sensitive; use antioxidant co-ingredients (Vitamin E, Ferulic Acid), opaque/airless packaging, and nitrogen blanketing in production where possible
  • Preservation: Always include a broad-spectrum preservative in aqueous formulas — we recommend Geogard ECT at 0.5–1.0%

Pairings — Build a Better Formula

Suggested Formula

A premium antioxidant longevity serum combining resveratrol’s sirtuin activation with CoQ10, Ferulic Acid, and stable Vitamin C for comprehensive anti-aging and photoprotective action.

Ingredient % Phase
Distilled Water q.s. to 100% A
Hyaluronic Acid Powder HMW 0.5% A
Niacinamide Powder 5.0% A
3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid 3.0% A
Propylene Glycol (with actives pre-dissolved) 5.0% B
Resveratrol Powder 0.3% B (pre-dissolved)
Coenzyme Q10 Powder 98% 0.3% B (pre-dissolved)
Ferulic Acid Powder 0.5% B (pre-dissolved)
Vitamin E Oil 0.5% B
Geogard ECT 0.8% C

Method: Combine Phase A — disperse hyaluronic acid in warm distilled water (≤40°C), add niacinamide and 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid and mix until fully dissolved. Separately, pre-dissolve resveratrol, CoQ10, and ferulic acid in propylene glycol with gentle warming (≤40°C) to form Phase B concentrate, then blend Vitamin E Oil into Phase B. Combine Phase B into Phase A with thorough mixing. Dissolve Geogard ECT (Phase C) in a small amount of water and incorporate. Check pH and adjust to 4.5–5.5. Bottle in opaque or airless packaging to protect from light.

Target pH: 4.5–5.5
Recommended use: Apply 3–4 drops to cleansed skin morning and/or evening before moisturizer. Follow with SPF during daytime use.

Storage & Shelf Life

  • Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture
  • Keep container tightly sealed when not in use to prevent oxidation
  • Protect from light — use opaque or amber packaging
  • Shelf life: 24 months unopened from date of manufacture
  • Once incorporated into a formula, stability depends on packaging, pH, and antioxidant co-ingredients
  • MFG: JUL 2026 | EXP: JUL 2028

Safety & Handling

  • For external use only — not for internal consumption
  • Avoid contact with eyes; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water
  • Conduct a patch test before use in finished formulations
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full handling and safety information: SDS

Suggested Usage & Formulation

Suggested Use & Storage

Use at 0.1–1.0%. Pre-dissolve in ethanol, propylene glycol, or a carrier oil before incorporating into your formulation. Can be added to the oil phase or introduced as a pre-dissolved concentrate into the water phase. Works synergistically with Vitamin C, niacinamide, CoQ10, and peptides. Suitable for antioxidant serums, brightening moisturizers, anti-aging formulations, photoprotective creams, and eye treatments.
