I use this preservative im a number of formulas. The quality is very good. Haven’t had any spoilage. I would like to see the expiry date on the bottle or at least on the website though.

Description
The Skin Soother Every Formula Needs — Gentle, Proven, Versatile
There are very few cosmetic actives that work across every skin type, every formula type, and every concern. Allantoin is one of them. Whether you’re formulating for sensitive skin, acne-prone skin, post-procedure recovery, or everyday hydration — allantoin belongs in your formula. It’s the quiet workhorse that makes everything feel better.
Trusted by cosmetic chemists for decades, backed by extensive safety data, and loved by customers who don’t even know it’s there — because their skin just feels good.
What Is Allantoin?
For Beginners: Allantoin is a naturally occurring compound found in the comfrey plant (Symphytum officinale), as well as in wheat sprouts and sugar beets. In cosmetics, it’s used as a skin-soothing, healing, and softening active. It’s one of the safest and most well-studied ingredients in the industry — approved for use in over-the-counter skin protectant products by the FDA.
For Experts: Allantoin (5-ureidohydantoin) is a diureide of glyoxylic acid. It functions as a keratolytic agent at higher concentrations, promoting desquamation and cell renewal, while at standard cosmetic usage rates (0.1–2%) it acts primarily as a skin protectant, anti-irritant, and moisturizing agent. It is amphoteric, non-ionic in behaviour at physiological pH, and compatible with a wide range of cosmetic systems.
INCI: Allantoin
What It Does For Skin
- ✦ Soothes irritation and redness — one of the most effective anti-irritant actives available; calms reactive, sensitive, and inflamed skin
- ✦ Accelerates skin healing — promotes cell proliferation and tissue repair; ideal for post-procedure, post-shave, and wound-adjacent formulas
- ✦ Softens and smooths — keratolytic action at higher concentrations helps loosen and remove dead skin cells for a smoother texture
- ✦ Boosts moisture retention — helps skin hold onto water, improving hydration and suppleness
- ✦ Reduces sensitivity to other actives — commonly used to buffer the irritation potential of retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and vitamin C
- ✦ Safe for all skin types — including sensitive, acne-prone, eczema-prone, and post-procedure skin

Formulator Tips
- ✔ Dissolve in hot water (70–80°C) for best results — allantoin has limited cold-water solubility and can leave undissolved particles if added to cool water
- ✔ Alternatively, pre-disperse in glycerin before adding to your water phase for easier incorporation
- ✔ Use at 0.2–0.5% for general soothing and anti-irritant benefits; increase to 1–2% for more pronounced healing and keratolytic effects
- ✔ Excellent as a buffer ingredient alongside retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and vitamin C to reduce irritation potential without compromising efficacy
- ✔ Stable across a wide pH range — works in both acidic exfoliant formulas and alkaline cleansers
- ✔ Non-ionic and compatible with virtually all cosmetic systems — one of the easiest actives to formulate with
- ✔ Always include a broad-spectrum preservative in any water-containing formula
