Pure Actives' Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) Powder is a non-ionic, water-soluble cellulose ether widely used as a thickener, gelling agent, and rheology modifier in cosmetic and personal care formulations. Derived from cellulose through hydroxyethylation, HEC disperses and swells in cold or hot water to form clear to slightly hazy, stable gels with excellent film-forming and water-retention properties. Its non-ionic nature makes it compatible with a broad range of cosmetic ingredients including electrolytes, cationic actives, and surfactants — making it one of the most versatile and formulation-friendly hydrocolloids available.
This ingredient is intended for cosmetic use only. Not for internal consumption. Always conduct a patch test before use in finished formulations.
Disperse HEC powder slowly into cold water while stirring to avoid clumping. Allow to fully hydrate and swell before combining with other ingredients. Use at 0.5–2.0% depending on desired viscosity. For gels, use at 1.0–2.0%; for light lotions and serums, use at 0.5–1.0%. Compatible with most cosmetic actives, electrolytes, and surfactants. Suitable for serums, gels, cleansers, shampoos, conditioners, and body care formulations.
