Description

Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) — Stable Vitamin C Derivative for Brightening & Anti-Aging

Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) is a water-soluble, highly stable salt form of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid). Unlike L-Ascorbic Acid, which oxidizes rapidly and requires low pH formulations, MAP is stable across a wide pH range, non-irritating, and suitable for sensitive skin — making it one of the most formulator-friendly Vitamin C derivatives available.

Once absorbed into the skin, MAP is enzymatically converted to free ascorbic acid, delivering the full biological activity of Vitamin C: collagen synthesis stimulation, melanin inhibition, and antioxidant protection against UV-induced free radical damage.

MAP vs. Other Vitamin C Forms

MAP (this product) L-Ascorbic Acid 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid
Stability Excellent — stable in water Poor — oxidizes rapidly Good — stable in water
pH of raw material 7.0–8.0 2.5–3.5 4.0–6.0
Solubility Water-soluble Water-soluble Water & oil soluble
Skin Irritation Very low — sensitive skin safe Moderate to high Low
Brightening Strong — inhibits tyrosinase Strong Strong
Collagen support Yes — via ascorbic acid conversion Yes — direct Yes — via conversion
Typical usage rate 1–10% 5–20% 1–3%

Key Benefits

  • Brightening & hyperpigmentation correction — inhibits tyrosinase, the key enzyme in melanin synthesis; reduces dark spots, uneven tone, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Collagen synthesis support — converted to ascorbic acid in skin, a required cofactor for collagen biosynthesis; supports skin firmness and elasticity
  • Antioxidant protection — neutralizes free radicals generated by UV exposure and environmental stress; helps prevent photoaging
  • Exceptional stability — does not yellow or oxidize like L-Ascorbic Acid; extends product shelf life
  • Sensitive skin compatible — non-irritating at effective concentrations; suitable for reactive, rosacea-prone, and post-procedure skin
  • Broad formulation versatility — works in serums, toners, moisturizers, eye creams, and masks

How to Use

  • Incorporation: Dissolve in the water phase. Stir into warm water (40–60°C) until fully dissolved. Can also be added at cool-down (below 40°C) with extended mixing
  • Recommended Usage Rate: 1–10% in finished formulations (3–5% most common for brightening serums; up to 10% for intensive treatment products)
  • Solubility: Freely water-soluble; not oil-soluble
  • pH of raw material: 7.0–8.0 (1% aqueous solution). Adjust finished formula pH to suit your target application
  • Processing temperature: Do not exceed 70°C
