I use this preservative im a number of formulas. The quality is very good. Haven’t had any spoilage. I would like to see the expiry date on the bottle or at least on the website though.

Description
Tartaric acid (INCI: Tartaric Acid | CAS: 87-69-4) is a naturally occurring dihydroxy dicarboxylic acid (AHA) sourced primarily from grapes and tamarinds. It exfoliates by weakening the desmosomes — the protein bonds that hold dead skin cells (corneocytes) to the surface — allowing them to shed more evenly without physical abrasion. Because its molecular weight is higher than glycolic or lactic acid, it penetrates the stratum corneum more slowly, delivering a gentler exfoliation that’s well-tolerated by dry, sensitive, and reactive skin types.
What makes tartaric acid especially useful in formulation is its dual function: it exfoliates and adjusts pH. A stable, low pH is critical for keeping AHAs active, vitamin C effective, and preservative systems functioning correctly. Tartaric acid helps you hit and hold that target pH with precision. It also has a documented synergistic effect with other AHAs — small additions to a glycolic or lactic acid blend can amplify exfoliation without increasing the total acid load or irritation risk.
Formulation notes: Use at 0.5%–5% depending on application. Optimal pH: 3.0–4.5. Dissolves readily in water — add to the water phase. Pairs well with glycolic acid, lactic acid, niacinamide, and vitamin C. Suitable for exfoliating serums, toners, treatment masks, and pH-sensitive emulsions. Avoid high concentrations in leave-on products for compromised or sensitized skin without patch testing.
